Wednesday August 31: Garden Gathering - Kitchen Garden: Tomatoes and Peppers!


Join Director of Horticulture Claire Davis and explore the midsummer bounty of Locust Grove's historic Kitchen Garden! Learn about the heirloom varieties we grow and the organic techniques we use to keep our veggies healthy and productive throughout the growing season.

We'll talk about choosing varieties, planting cover crops, and troubleshooting problems at a home-garden scale. With a focus on heirloom tomatoes and strategies appropriate for the mid-Hudson Valley, this workshop will help you grow some truly delicious and locally adapted summer veggies. And, at the end of the workshop, you'll have a chance to sample some of our delicious tomatoes and peppers!

Thursday September 8: Sunset Sensations Wine and Food Event

Come to Locust Grove and enjoy a magnificent Hudson River Sunset while sipping fine wines paired with culinary creations! Wednesday September 14: Garden Gathering - Dahlias


Demystify the tale of the tuber and learn tips and tricks to grow these spectacular late season annual bloomers. You will learn the conditions needed for growing them, tips for disease management, troubleshooting problems and tuber removal and winter storage procedures. Then harvest and arrange some stunning blooms and arrange them with other late summer bloomers. We will provide the tools. Wear comfortable garden gear and bring your own water, snacks, and your own vase for an arrangement you can take home. 5:30 - 7pm, $50/person, limited to 10 participants.

September 24 and 25: Great Estates Landscape and Garden Weekend

Enjoy a Fall Frolic Tour with Director of Horticulture Claire Davis on Saturday September 24th at 10:30am. You'll learn more about the heirloom flower and kitchen gardens, with a focus on dahlias and asters, and how we choose what to plant each year.

On Sunday September 25th at 10:30am join Director Ken Snodgrass for a Guided Walk on our historic carriage roads. You'll have a chance to learn more about the three historic estates that were united to form today's Locust Grove, and view rarely-seen historic photos! Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for a walk of about a mile.

Each tour is $15, Patron Level members and above are free! Book tours by calling 845.454.4500 between 10am and 5pm.


Weekends in October: Harvest Scavenger Hunt

Get in the mood for fall as you search the Locust Grove grounds to find two dozen embellished pumpkins on a kid-friendly storywalk. Follow the clues our special story and enjoy some old favorite displays, as well as new pieces created this year! We'll supply a map and instructions; you should bring your imagination! (costumes encouraged). Kids under 4 are free, tickets required for everyone else. Make sure to purchase tickets in advance! Friday - Monday, 10am - 3pm, $10/person

Wednesday October 26: Garden Gathering - Fall trees


Have you ever wondered how old the trees are at Locust Grove? Why is a certain tree planted where it is? How we care for and replace trees? Enjoy a gentle autumn walk through the upper level of the estate and learn basic tree identification and how to use some apps on your phone to identify trees in many different places. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring your own water and snacks.

“They Suppose You Are a Gentleman.” An exhibit organized by the Dutchess County Historical Society exploring LaGrange artist Caroline Morgan Clowes’ extraordinary path to national artistic acclaim.
