Receiving Room

The Receiving Room was redecorated by the Young family in 1901 and used as an informal room for entertaining friends. It is currently arranged for a friendly game of whist (a game much like bridge) by Mrs. Young and her card club, The Owls, and looks much as it did between 1906 and 1915. The rocking chair and cushioned sofa provide comfortable seating opportunities in a room otherwise furnished with formal pieces from the early nineteenth-century.
