Entrance Hall

This is the most formal entrance to the house. When Morse renovated and expanded the house in 1851, he placed the new Drawing Room at the far end of the hall, aligned with the front door, to create a grand and dramatic space. The foyer, with its elegant and practical tiled floor, was added by the Youngs after 1900.

When guests came to call on the family at Locust Grove, they were greeted by a servant, and could then leave their coats, hats, umbrellas, and walking sticks in the foyer before being directed to one of the four reception rooms on this floor.
